Happy 2010! I slowed a bit in my blogging at the end of '09 almost as slowly as I started. It stands to reason that I came to halt in my ability to form a cohesive thought toward the end due to the uneccesary worry that came with our being members in the family of Journal Broadcast Group. I am sure you have all heard the news by now...Pete still has a job!!! Not the same job, but a job nonetheless. The Pete and Joe show has come to an end. Pete will continue to work on J105 as a Program Director of sorts for the station with an on-air spot in the afternoon. This was a tremendous blessing in that we could finally take one deep and cleansing breath. Our first of 2009.
Near the end of '08 I asked Pete innocently enough, "Where are we moving to next? The contract is up at the end of '09, you know." I received one answer, "Let's not discuss this until 2009." So as of January 1, 2009 at 12:01a.m. I began to worry, plot, plan, and worry some more.
For 2010 we can rest assured that Pete has a job, I am still at BSU part-time and working to open Meemee's Daycare....FINALLY!!!
On that note:
Meemee's Daycare Interview #1
I met with a woman that has been running her own in-home daycare for the past 4 years. We met through some of my friends from church. Her name is Jesse and she is ready to rejoin the workforce outside of her 4 walls. She has been referring her current clients to me! How wonderful is that?!
I met with her best family. Best in that they pay on time and their children are the lights of their lives. I learned a few of the requirements that this family had prior to our meeting from Jesse and from their neightbor whom I happen to work with at BSU. Yes, this is all very coincidental.
I knew 3 things:
1. They are not fans of their children watching television
2. They are concerned about my lack of experience in child daycare.
3. They are very particular and some may say neurotic about germs.
* I also assumed that they were not fans of their children partaking in large quantities of sugar, partly because most parents aren't and the televison watching thing was kind of a red flag as to what will be expected of the person that is fortunate enough to watch their children.
I put Lily down for a nap so I could focus on the interview process and really do a bang up job at selling myself. The parents were a bit late for the interview...about 45 minutes late. Guess who woke up 10 minutes before they arrived? Yep! Lily Mae in all her crabby glory. My daughter is not one to make scenes, but she did just turn 2 in November.
I asked her to be good, I asked her to color and read and eat some fruit (still her food of choice). As I began with my philosophy on child rearing, Lily began to whine. As I continued into my beliefs on discipline, she began to scream. She wanted ELMO, ELMO, ELMO. On t.v. of course. She got up from her chair and went to get a book. Not the book she wanted, and her nose began to run. She walks over to me, grabs the back of my hand and wipes 2 year snot all over my hand. Thanks, Lily!! So I handle it by expressing my love for hand sanitizer. As I explain my unwaivering demand that all children are fed a healthy, balanced diet, Lily opens the pantry and yells "Chips" as in chocolate. And "MaMarsh". As in Marshmallow.(okay, this is REALLY Lily's food of choice!)
The family and I seemed to agree on most of my policies and procedures and expressed their understanding of Lily's toddler tantrum(s?) from what I recall. They quickly left so we could "get back to our day".
This may not be my first family. This may not be the last time Lily embarrasses her mother. There are several lessons here, I will learn them when I turn off Elmo and stop feeding my daughter out of the 2 major food groups: Chocolate and Marshmallows.
Happy New Year! I need to flex my writing muscles this year, so check back often. I'll try to be entertaining....or at least, relatable!
I wish I was there for you:(( VERY entertaining blog, though!! Love you guys!
